Our Story

Some traditions cannot be learned from a book.

They are learned by sitting beside someone whose hands remember.

Falelalaga Village exists to keep one of Samoa’s oldest cultural traditions alive by bringing together people, stories and weaving in one welcoming place.

Our weaving journey begins in the village of Fagaloa, Samoa, renowned for producing the natural fibres used to create beautiful Samoan woven treasures. Carefully prepared materials travel from Samoa to our village in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, where they are transformed by skilled weavers using techniques that have been passed from generation to generation.

Every woven piece carries more than craftsmanship.

It carries language.

It carries family.

It carries identity.

For our weavers, weaving is not simply about producing beautiful objects. It is a way of sharing stories, strengthening relationships and passing cultural knowledge to the next generation.

That is why we call ourselves a village.

When you visit Falelalaga Village you are invited into more than a shop.

You can browse handcrafted woven products, commission an authentic ’ie toga, learn traditional weaving, attend community events, or simply spend time with women who continue a craft their mothers, grandmothers and ancestors have practised for centuries.

Whether you are preparing for a family fa’alavelave, searching for a meaningful gift, wanting to reconnect with your Samoan identity, or introducing your children to their heritage, Falelalaga Village provides a place where culture can be experienced, not simply observed.

Our vision is simple.

To help Samoan families, people and culture continue to prosper in Samoa, Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world by keeping traditional weaving alive for future generations.

Every purchase supports that vision.

Every class strengthens that knowledge.

Every visitor becomes part of the story.
